Sunburnt & Stubborn: Arizona's Weekly Activism Roundup | July 5–11, 2026

Sunburnt & Stubborn: Arizona's Weekly Activism Roundup | July 5–11, 2026

Hey all you sunburnt & stubborn desert-dwellers. The fireworks are over (well, mostly - we all have that one neighbor...) and the week ahead will be busy. Poll monitor training comes to the Verde Valley, the Arizona AFL-CIO kicks off its Labor 2026 campaign in Phoenix, and LUCHA convenes the People's Congress to get communities ready for the primaries.

There is also plenty of heat in the street, from Rio Rico to Scottsdale to Mesa, plus school board advocacy, postcards, and an ice cream social that doubles as a canvass. Details below.

What's Happening This Week

Education

Public education advocates are keeping the pressure on. Join in!

July 9 | Gen Z Scottsdale Canvass & Ice Cream Social | Save Our Schools Arizona | 4:30 PM | Scottsdale. A Gen Z-led canvass knocking doors and talking with voters about public schools, kicking off with ice cream before hitting the streets.

July 8 | LD13 School Bus: CUSD Board Meeting | LD13 Democrats | 6:30 PM | Chandler. Show up to the Chandler Unified school board meeting and consider speaking in support of public schools, students, and educators.

Voting Rights

With Arizona a top battleground again, election protection and voter turnout work is ramping up early.

July 8 | Election Protection Training | Indivisible Rimrock | 5:30 PM | Lake Montezuma. Train to work as a poll monitor with Election Protection AZ. Trainers from Election Defense Corp AZ will walk you through the role.

July 8 | Overcome Gerrymandering: CD-01 Postcards | Desert Democracy | 11:30 AM | Phoenix. Help write thousands of "remember to vote" postcards to CD-01 voters, an open seat with no incumbent, for mailing in October.

Protests & Resistance

July 8 | Rio Rico Protest & Protect | Nogales Santa Cruz County AZ Indivisible | 5:00 PM | Rio Rico. Santa Cruz County neighbors stand united against the dismantling of rights and systems that belong to all of us.

July 10 | Scottsdale Honk and Wave | MoveOn | 8:00 AM | Scottsdale. A morning visibility action calling out cuts to essential services and demanding accountability.

July 11 | Stand Up CD 8 | Desert Progressives Indivisible | 8:00 AM | Phoenix. A peaceful, high-visibility protest that is part of the multi-site Step Up CD-8 action holding Rep. Abe Hamadeh accountable.

Immigration

Ice raids are ramping up, so communities are showing up against ICE raids and for immigrant neighbors, with actions in Phoenix and Mesa.

July 9 | Rush-hour Resistance Rally at the ICE Field Office | Desert Democracy | 7:30 AM | Phoenix. Thursday morning rally directly across from the Phoenix ICE Field Office, part of the weekday Rush-hour Resistance series.

July 11 | ICE Out of Home Depot Protest | National Day Laborer Organizing Network | 9:00 AM | Phoenix. ICE agents continue targeting workers and customers around Home Depot stores. Stand with day laborers and surrounding communities.

July 11 | Stop the ICE Raids & Distractions | Mesa Valley Indivisible | 9:00 AM | Mesa. Mesa neighbors call for Rep. Andy Biggs to recuse himself and for accountability on escalating raids.

Mutual Aid & Community

Building relationships is organizing, too. This week offers spaces to practice hard conversations and gather across the state.

July 8 | How to Bring Up Big Ideas Without Starting a Fight | GATHER | 6:00 PM | Goodyear. A practical workshop on raising policy ideas with neighbors, coworkers, and family without triggering a political argument.

July 8 | Working Class Wednesdays | Working Families Power | 6:00 PM | Tucson. Community members and elected leaders gather as equals to build community and break barriers.

July 11 | Congreso del Pueblo (The People's Congress) | LUCHA | 3:00 PM | Phoenix. With primaries around the corner, LUCHA convenes community to prepare the fight back. Joy is resistance.

Canvassing & Phone Banking

Voter contact season is in full swing, with options every day of the week whether you prefer doors, phones, or a clipboard at the farmer's market.

July 5–11 | No Contact Lit Drop | LD26 Democrats | Daily, 8:00 AM | Phoenix. Pick up a packet of "About Us" flyers any day this week and introduce LD26 Democrats to neighbors, no door knocking required.

July 11 | Labor 2026 Arizona Campaign Kickoff | Arizona AFL-CIO | 9:30 AM | Phoenix. Hear from local labor leaders, then head out canvassing and phone banking in support of Arizona workers.

July 11 | High Traffic Canvass at Tempe Marketplace | Copper State Victory | 12:30 PM | Tempe. Young organizers and volunteers register and engage voters at one of the East Valley's busiest shopping areas.
