Sunburnt & Stubborn: Weekly Activism Roundup | Mar 30 - Apr 5

Sunburnt & Stubborn: Weekly Activism Roundup | Mar 30 - Apr 5

No Kings Day was a major success; we had over 80 events scheduled across our great state. It has been a joy watching the movement grow and I hope you feel proud. The week ahead is quieter than last, but the work continues: city councils, food pantries, garden days, a Home Depot protest, and a strike readiness training that is worth paying attention to as May Day approaches. Show up where you can, sunburnt & stubborn crew.

Immigration & ICE Resistance

Monday, March 30 | Mesa City Council: End the 287(g) Agreement | 5:45 PM | Mesa Indivisible Mesa is back at Mesa City Council demanding the city withdraw from its 287(g) agreement with ICE — an agreement in place since 2009 that gives Mesa PD immigration enforcement authority. Arrive by 4:30 PM to sign up for public comment. Non-speakers can submit written comments via QR code or online kiosk.

Saturday, April 4 | ICE Out of Home Depot — Phoenix Protest | 9:00 AM | Phoenix ICE agents continue to target workers and customers at Home Depot locations across the country — including the Phoenix store at 36th and Thomas where several workers were recently detained. The National Day Laborer Organizing Network is calling for a protest demanding Home Depot publicly condemn the raids and take action to protect everyone on its properties.

Civic Engagement

Tuesday, March 31 | Community Strike Readiness Training | 5:00 PM | Virtual Freedom Trainers and Grassroots Democracy are hosting a training on how community-coordinated strikes and collective actions work — covering how to organize beyond the workplace, how to lead as a Hub Leader, and how to build momentum toward May Day 2026 on May 1. This is for people ready to step into a leadership role or learn what coordinated collective action looks like in practice.

Various dates April 2–16 | Phoenix City Budget Public Hearings — Environmental Justice | 6:00 PM | Phoenix Chispa AZ is organizing community members to speak at Phoenix City Budget Public Hearings on tree replacement, cool corridors, and the Active Transportation Plan. Training and support provided. Show up to speak or show up to support — both matter!

Protests & Accountability

Tuesday, March 31 | LD4 Dems Letter Writing & Protest Sign Making | 11:00 AM | Phoenix LD4 Democrats meet every Tuesday to write letters to Rep. Schweikert and make protest signs for the ongoing weekly rallies outside his office. Drop in anytime between 11 AM and 2 PM at 2980 E Northern Ave, Suite C1, Phoenix.

Community & Mutual Aid

Food provided first-come.

Thursday, April 2 | Choice Food Pantry — Mesa | 9:15 – 11:00 AM | Mesa Local First Arizona's bi-monthly food pantry serving residents of a low-income housing community in Mesa.
